Blog-o-assignment #2: What do you believe?

Due Date: Tuesday, Sept. 15

What you believe and learning about yourself are important to understanding the big picture of religion. You will be taking two surveys to see what sort of religious beliefs you hold and then reacting to these results. Secondly you will do research on one of the beliefs that came up in the survey and then write a reaction to your findings.

Part I: What is the level of your spirituality according to the survey?

1) Go to the following site: : http://www.beliefnet.com/section/quiz/index.asp?surveyID=27-
2) Take the survey - When you are done right down or cut and paste what the survey determined. Save results for your response.

Part II: Take the "what is your faith" quiz:

1) Go to beliefnet.com and take the belief-o-matic quiz on "what is your faith": http://www.beliefnet.com/Entertainment/Quizzes/BeliefOMatic.aspx -
2) Take the survey. Don't worry, sometimes you fall in between answers. Choose the answer that is MOSTLY correct.
3) When you get the results list the top five religions given. From the results, find the highest ranked "Eastern religion" and click onto the more indepth description of the beliefs. Cut and paste that information.

Part III: Personal response to the surveys -
Write a brief initial response to both of the surveys. There is no specific focus so use the following as possible guidelines / ideas.

• What was your initial reaction to what the surveys said?
• Was it a surprise or what you expected? Why / why not?
• Do you agree with the findings? Why or why not?
• Have you heard of the beliefs given to you?
• Did any of the questions make you really think?
• Did you find some of the responses difficult to decide on?
  

Part IV: Researching a specific spiritual belief:
Determine the highest ranked of the eastern religions and use the information given on the religion (and any other info you might find)

1) Give an overview of what the religion believes. There is a significant amount of info given for each of the beliefs so use the resulting information to base your info search. In your own words, describe the basics of what this particular religion believes. Please do not simply cut and paste the info. Try to digest the information given and then explain it to the best of your ability.
2) After researching the basics, please write a response to this particular religion and the fact the survey ranked this religion close to your beliefs. In other words, what was your reaction to this finding? For example, look at the religion and decide whether or not the outcome of the survey was accurate or not. Do you think this is a religion that does indeed fit your worldview? Why / Why not? Were you aware of this belief prior to the survey?
